These lists include my favourite all-time movies, TV, music, books and podcasts. This is the media that has meant the most to me throughout life. Probably a few I’ve forgotten to include just due to memory lapse. This isn’t necessarily what I’m consuming the most of now.
This is where I grew up. I lived in the Port from around the age of 1 until I went to Israel in 97/98.
I spent 3 or 4 months in Israel living on Kibbutz Deganya Bet. This would have been around 1997/98, not sure. I am not Jewish, btw, we just happened to know someone who recommended it to us. I also spent a bit of time in Tel Aviv. I loved being on kibbutz. I haven’t forgotten the beautiful people I met there.
I studied my Masters degree at the Peace Studies department of the University of Bradford, WY, in 98/99. The best thing about Bradford was the kebabs and curries. There was a place called the Flying Fez with the best donner. I also had the best chicken makhani of my entire life. Met people from all over the world, and hung out at The Love Apple cafe.
I spent a couple of years going nowhere in Manchester. I think I saw United twice. Should have gone more. Best thing I ate there was an incredibly greasy deep fried turkey stick from a near-by chippy, the likes of which I have never seen anywhere before or since. Most notable job was for John Rylands University Library of Manchester. I met some nice people there.
Not much I can say about it.
Lived in Nanaimo for 7 or 8 years back in the Naughties. I enjoyed being a radio show host on late night community radio. I studied First Nations Studies among other things at VIU. I met some lovely people and some woeful assholes too. I also came up with some of my key ideas during this time and wrote a bunch of songs.
I lived in Taiwan for a year or thereabouts, most of that in Taoyuan city. I taught ESL. Pollution was terrible. Good fried chicken.
Spent a smallish amount of time in Valencia and really loved it.
I love visiting Tokyo. I love riding the bike around. The people are lovely, it’s safe, and there is so much to do. Good food. There are great parks. It’s a shame about the pollution but it’s everywhere these days.
