I’ll tell you why rich people like health insurance. Because they can afford private health care – and they don’t give a damn whether you can or not. And even if they needed insured care, they have accountants and lawyers to do all their paperwork.
Ordinary people living under health insurance profit schemes have to worry about qualifying, what is covered and what isn’t, being ripped off and denied insurance claims, being charged massive fees that cripple them in their time of greatest need. I mean, health insurance and pharmaceutical companies are capitalist, so their only goal is profit. They literally want to exploit you and deny your claims, and they work very hard to do so.
In single payer health care countries, on the other hand, governments constantly privatize whole sections of care to profiteering capitalists who degrade services and HCW wages. They starve health care of funds, claiming that the country can’t afford higher taxes. And the people, foolishly, believe them. Then, they face agonizingly long wait times for care and can’t get family doctors.
What a disgrace. Why do you support these fools?
Universal health care: coming soon to Planet Earth.
Imagine how great it would be to be able to walk into a good hospital anywhere in the world and get care, no questions asked: no insurance forms, no fees, no panic, no stress.
Maybe if people in downtrodden countries had good hospitals and care centres they wouldn’t be so desperate to escape.
Imagine how great it would be to never have to worry about getting access to a family doctor and medication no matter where you live.
Imagine never having to worry about your insurance payments falling into arrears and being referred to a debt collection agency, or having your life ruined by credit ratings.
Well, my friend, that world is not only possible but realistically achievable – and without harming prosperity. Don’t let them limit your ambition. Don’t let them tell you we can’t.
